In a small rural community in Nepal, 28-year-old Vrinda has become a source of strength and inspiration to her neighbours. As a Climate Resilience Champion (CRC) supported by our partner organisation, she has taken on the vital role of helping her community adapt to the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
Vrinda recently participated in an intensive four-day training programme focused on Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). Through this training, she gained the skills and confidence to educate her community on disaster preparedness and sustainable agricultural practices. She now works closely with women from low-income households and small-scale farmers, sharing practical advice on how to protect their livelihoods and prepare for floods and other disasters.
With her newfound knowledge, Vrinda has mobilised her village to form disaster risk reduction teams and has introduced them to the importance of having a disaster management plan. Her efforts are already making a tangible difference, as more families are adopting climate-smart farming techniques and taking steps to safeguard their homes and fields from extreme weather events.
Reflecting on her experience, Vrinda says: "The training sessions have been very valuable for me. I have learnt so much in the past 4 days, I believe that this can help in improving the livelihood of my community members and reduce disaster risk immensely."
Vrinda’s work demonstrates the power of equipping local leaders with the tools they need to create meaningful change. By supporting individuals like her, we can help entire communities build resilience against the growing threats of climate change
Your generosity makes it possible for us to continue empowering local champions like Vrinda. Together, we can create stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for being part of this journey.
