Building a Brighter Future for Nyandja's Children

By PASCAL NIYONZIMA | CORDINATOR

Project Background:

At Nyandja Primary School, located in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, around 600 children currently study in extremely poor conditions. The school lacks classrooms, latrines, benches, and teaching materials. Pupils are forced to study outdoors, exposed to harsh weather and overcrowding. This situation puts them at risk of disease, robs them of dignity, and severely limits their chances of learning and succeeding.

This project aims to build six classrooms and four latrines, as well as provide desks and school supplies. More than an infrastructure upgrade, this initiative seeks to restore dignity, ensure safety, and provide hope through quality education.

Project Objectives:

  1. Build 6 Classrooms: Create a safe, healthy, and conducive learning environment for 600 pupils. These new classrooms will protect students from the sun and rain, reduce overcrowding, and support better academic performance.
  2. Build 4 Latrines: Provide adequate sanitary facilities for students and teachers to reduce the spread of disease and preserve personal dignity.
  3. Supply Desks and Educational Materials: Equip students with proper learning tools and furniture, while empowering teachers to deliver quality instruction.

Beneficiaries:

This project will directly benefit 600 children — approximately 300 girls and 300 boys — who will gain access to education in a safe and dignified environment. The improved school conditions will also positively impact the wider community, fostering long-term development and increased school retention.

Long-Term Impact:

Education is a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty. By offering a secure and well-equipped learning environment, we enable these children to build skills, access opportunities, and become positive agents of change in their communities. This project will strengthen literacy, social cohesion, and prepare the next generation of leaders, doctors, teachers, and entrepreneurs. Every child educated is a step toward a better future for South Kivu.

Challenges and Needs:

The school faces several challenges linked to poverty, inaccessibility, and the region’s fragile context. Many children walk long distances on dangerous roads just to reach the school. The lack of toilets and shelter exposes students to health risks, illness, and school dropout.

Budget and Funding:

The total budget for the project is $85,000. This amount covers construction, equipment, and basic operational support. As of now, no funds have been raised yet. However, with the support of GlobalGiving, we are confident in reaching this goal and bringing the project to life.

Call to Action:

We call upon all generous hearts to support this vital project. Every donation, no matter how small, will help provide 600 children with a chance at a better future. To those who have already contributed — thank you. Your support is changing lives. And to new donors: your help is urgently needed. Together, we can give these children access to safe, quality education and unlock their full potential.

Conclusion:

Education is one of the most powerful tools for lasting change. With your help, this project will create a lasting impact in the lives of hundreds of children. Together, with GlobalGiving, we are building more than classrooms — we are building hope. Your generosity will lay the foundation for a brighter future for generations to come.
