Dear Upendo Supporters,

A big thank you to those who have donated to our project "Build a Toilet Block for Upendo Orphans in Kilifi." Your donations ensure that we march towards our fundraising goal.

The project is still active and we request for your support to meet our goal and subsequently put up the toilet block for the Upendo Orphans.

Toilets are important sanitation facilities in any institution. For learning institutions, toilets are as important as books – thus a must for maintaining good health of students and also the staff working for students.

According to UNICEF, toilets matter because:

  1. Toilets save lives! Without toilets, deadly diseases spread rapidly due to unsafe water, sanitation, and poor hygiene.
  2. Would you show up if there were no toilets at your school? The answer is definitely NO.
  3. Schools without toilets can cause girls to miss out on their education. Without proper sanitation facilities, many are forced to miss school when they’re on their period.
  4. Toilets are a great investment. Every dollar spent on sanitation has a return of US$5.50, according to WHO research.
  5. They help reduce the number of people practicing open defecation due to lack of toilets.

Upendo has admitted new orphans this year where these will be supported to access quality education, healthcare and feeding. With this and also the increase in enrolment of the school this year, the number of people sharing on the few available toilets has greatly increased thus creating the need for the construction of additional toilets to support the ever-increasing number of students and staff.

Thank you.
