Natubelenge Children's Library is an umbrella of three (3) main projects: the literacy, learning through play and Access projects. Through the access project, in which our GlobalGiving project falls (Build a library for 2000 children) with the commitment of our staff. We saw library visits rise from 7396 the prevoius year to 9860 in 2023.
" Thanks to Natubelenge Children's Library, I had access to a wide range of educational materials that I couldn'nt find at my school or at home. I passed my final Grade 12 exams with flying colors, and I am very excited for the future." - Transon,17
Over the course of last year our library successfully resumed holiday reading camps post COVID-19. Natubelenge reading camps are play-based reading intervention camps. Activities are designed to help children develop a love for reading. Part of our focus also went to the preservation of local languages and indiginous games through a program called Native Day that encourges the use of local languages.
In the months our organisation has seen repeated challenges such as limited space to accomodate more children, insufficient funding to extend our programming, inadequate staff and most recently the local bank that holds our funds was possessed by the Central Bank and this means we are unable to access our funds until further notice. As we look to the future, there are obstacle but our library remains committed to ensure that our children recieve the free services and resources they need and we are given hope by donors like you who believe in our cause.
Thank you!
