GABA HOPE FOR KIDS (GAHOK)*
*Narrative Report - August 2026*
*THEME: OUR KITCHEN BUILDING PLAN CONTINUES*
*1. Introduction*
Our kitchen building plan continues with one goal: to feed 600 hungry children with dignity and safety. Gaba Hope for Kids provides the only meal many children get in a day. Started in 2019 cooking under a tree for 50 children, we now cook in open space for 600 children daily.
*2. Why Our Kitchen Building Plan Must Continue*
Current situation is not safe:
- Cooking in open space - rain stops cooking, children go hungry
- Smoke affects children in nearby iron sheet classes
- No storage - food gets spoiled by rats, dust
- No proper stoves - we use 3 stones, using too much firewood
- 600 plates served on dusty ground
Without a kitchen, our feeding program that keeps 600 children in school will collapse.
*3. What We Have Done So Far*
*A) Land Secured:*
Kitchen will be built on our 1-acre permanent land in Wakiso as part of Phase 1.
*B) Plan Ready:*
- Simple kitchen design approved by community - 20x30 ft with store, energy-saving stoves, washing area
- Site for kitchen cleared and marked
*C) Materials Mobilized:*
- 2,000 bricks already molded by mothers for kitchen
- Sand contributed by parents
- Mothers volunteer daily to cook for 600 - true ownership
*4. Our Kitchen Building Plan Continues - Current Activities (August 2026)*
1. Foundation marking and excavation for kitchen ongoing
2. Molding more bricks - target 5,000 for kitchen block
3. Fundraising for roofing, stoves, and storage
4. Training mothers in proper food handling and hygiene
*5. What Remains To Complete Kitchen*
- Roofing and walls - safe cooking even in rain
- Energy-saving stoves - reduce firewood and smoke
- Food store - protect posho, beans, rice from rats and rain
- Water tank and washing area - clean plates for 600
- Utensils - big saucepans, plates, cups for 600
*Impact Once Completed:*
- 600 children will eat hot meals daily without interruption
- Girls will not inhale smoke in class
- Food will be safe and clean
- Mothers will cook with dignity
*6. Challenges*
- Heavy rains - open cooking impossible, children miss meals
- Firewood cost high - 3 stones use too much wood
- No storage - we buy food daily at high price
- 100% donor dependent
*7. Next Steps - September to December 2026*
- Complete kitchen walls by end of September
- Install 2 energy-saving stoves in October
- Build food store and washing bay in November
- Commission kitchen in December and start feeding 600 from permanent kitchen
