We are so excited! The school kitchen is growing and growing and looking awesome. This sturdily built construction will last a lifetime and will be a focalpoint at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center in Nakuru. The dozens of mommas come together in groups every day, 6 days a week, to cook and prepare the meals for hundreds of children - on a volunteer basis. It's joy to watch them - and even help them - as they work. The work is never tedious as the women sing and chat, laugh and smile all the time. They are happy to be a part of the project that is educating their children without feeling like beggars. They are a part of the community - and now they are all excited to soon be moving into a modern kitchen where they know that they will be able to help provide nutritious and delicious meals for the children in a clean and hygienic way.
If all goes well and funds are donated, we hope to have the construction completed and in working order by August so that the children will be enjoying their breakfasts and lunches from the new kitchen.
We are still in dire need of donations. Our Project Manager, Ken, has written this balance:
The balance of the kitchen construction is about 14,000 € - 16,650 US$
The oven , a medium one costs 650 € - 725 US$
The septic/pit latrines and urinal pit will cost 5,000 € - 5600 US$
Water tank and water harvesting system will cost about 1,400 euros - 1,560 US$
The other fittings of the kitchen like tables, cabinets, overalls etc will cost about 3,000 € - 3,350 US$
So, we really have to work on raising the funds - and we are! Between markets, basars, festivals and concerts - we are doing our level bst to get the kitchen paid for.
We appreciate every donation - and every donation means another piece of the kitchen for us.
Asante Sana!
