Thank you so much to all who donated as part of the World Refugee Day Match fund or since. We’ve made a positive start to the fundraising but there’s still quite a way to go before this project becomes a reality.

So although I can’t share any news of building progress just yet, I can share a little more about the plans for the centre and what will happen there. What I’m sharing with you comes directly from our team in the settlement who are refugees themselves and are who are in touch with the needs of those living there. They are very excited that funding for this project is coming in as they know what a difference this resource will have.

 The Buidling

The Disability Centre shall be located at Belameling Refugee settlement in Zone 1 of Palorinya Refugee Settlements. It shall be a Disability Support/Rehabilitation Centre for all our programs on Disability in Moyo including livelihoods activities and community based rehabilitation. Within the Disability Centre, there shall be an office, training Hall, Shop for marketing products resulting from the various Livelihood Activities; and in future, we shall have accomodation in it to host participants on training and practice.

Objectives

1. To reduce poverty for persons with disabilities by training those of working age with new skills, such as how to make various products. The goal is to increase their employment possibilities. The integrated shop will allow for trainees to earn money immediately from their work.

2. To act as a hub for the team of Community Based Rehab workers including the use of the centre to deliver treatment and therapies when a refugee shelter home is not suitable as is often the case.

3. To open the use of the space up to respite sessions for children with disabilities. Children with disabilities will be able to play and learn together whilst giving parents some respite care. X

So the plans are well under way and the vision for the centre is rapidly growing. We will continue to work hard to find further funds for this project and we hope to update you on progress in a few months.

Thank you for your support!
