In the 2 years since Typhoon Haiyan devastated this region, OM Philippines, working in partnership with local churches and other like-minded organizations, have built over100 houses in Northern Cebu and Eastern Samar. The Samar projects have just started while the Northern Cebu is now on its final phase.
The final hand over of the 58 houses in Kinatarkan, Bantayan Cebu was completed recently and was highlighted by a Community Festival. This was dubbed Fiesta ni Cristo, of Filipino games with sumptuous lunch of traditional local foods including 2 lechons, bihon, adobong manok and many others.
The old and children alike - those who have received houses and those who have not received shared the joy of the bounty and blessings of fun, fellowships and camaraderie. This was a joyful celebration of thanksgiving for all who took part for both those who had received a new home and for those who had been part of making this possible.
With the final houses complete the project in Kinatarkan will move on to the next phase in 2016.
While they will be closing the housing project, our partners will continue to work in this area with a new focus on livelihoods and capacity building for the people from this community.
We are very thankful to those who have supported this project through Global Giving and also through other channels.
