2018 proved to be a difficult year for the Zimbabwean nation at large with the economy dwindling within a short space of time. Many development projects were negatively affected. The Community Foundation for the Western Region of Zimbabwe was not spared from the economic mayhem as some of our projects including “Construction of Mapukane Secondary School” were also negatively affected.
The fund donated by several donors since the beginning of the project now amounts to US$2, 972.00. This means that we still have a deficit of a substantial amount totaling US$37, 028.00. Efforts by the Foundation in attaining matching funds have all been unfruitful with the Australian Embassy denying us a grant for our last proposal. The unsound economic environment also makes it difficult for local philanthropist to support this cause. Even though we haven’t been successful so far, the Foundation continues to seek means through which your donations can be matched.
As was indicated in the last report that CFWRZ has since introduced a community philanthropy concept in the target communities. The emphasis of community philanthropy is on pooling and organising diverse community assets in ways that transform the community to becoming a co-investor in their own development processes, the construction of the school being one such development project. Even though the funds raised so far act as an incentive and challenge grant for local giving, communities have not been able to fully commit to this challenge as they are too affected by this unpalatable economic situation. However, the organization will continue to find means through which this concept may be encouraged.
As daunting as the situation may sound, communities remain optimistic that the project will be completed one day. The committee will meet in the following year to discuss strategies through which funds can be raised in support of this project. CFWRZ will also continue to engage multiple potential donors and benefactors with the aim of acquiring more funding to assist this community.
The Mangwe community as well as the Community Foundation for the Western Region of Zimbabwe would like to thank you for your generous support. Your donations will go a long way in making the community a great place to live in for 400 children in the area. We are indeed grateful to you for your enthusiasm which helps us assist the disadvantaged.
The communities are appealing for your continued backing. Please continue to share this initiative within your circles as we believe that many hands will guarantee completion of the project. We will continue to update you in the coming months on the progress made so far.
