Your donation has provided vital support to a community’s long term vision of providing the much-needed education to the children of Matabeleland South province. According to the country’s records, thirty-one percent of pupils in Matabeleland South Province who completed Grade Seven last year dropped out of school due to various reasons. Some of these reasons include long distances to schools, failure to pay school fees, teenage pregnancies among other reasons. The children of four remote villages in Mangwe district are no exception but also suffer the very same plight hence poor literacy level in that area.
Since our last report, the project has so far received an additional US$300 from one of our monthly donors. This brings us to a total of US$2 220.00 worth of donations. This means that we still have a deficit of US$37 780, an amount that communities will never be able to raise on their own. Even though we haven’t been successful in the past, the Foundation continues to seek means through which your donations can be matched. We have recently submitted a proposal to the Australian Embassy in Zimbabwe and are optimistic that we will be successful this time.
People in this community understand that education is an element that one cannot live without. They understand that without education, one cannot bank on a positive future. This is what pushes them to keep the faith that they will one day provide a conducive learning environment for their children. CFWRZ will continue to engage multiple potential donors and benefactors with the aim of acquiring more funding to assist this community.
Furthermore, CFWRZ has since introduced a community philanthropy concept in this community. The emphasis of community philanthropy is on pooling and organising diverse community assets in ways that transform this community to becoming co-investor in their own development processes, the construction of the school being one such development project. The US$2, 220.00 acts as an incentive and challenge grant for local giving. Giving circles will be organised so as to attract more people to participate in the contribution for the construction of the school.
Thank you again for your generous support of our project Build 2 Classrooms for 400 Children in Zimbabwe (#26946) and for making a smart decision to donate and fund an effective, community-led approach to community development. These communities are appealing for your continued backing and believe that even though it may take some time before they finally realise their dream, it will be possible with external help. We will continue to update you in the coming months on the progress made so far in the completion of this project.
