This project will 10 Build community libraries in rural Uganda to give 5000 children and youth access to books, learning materials, and safe study spaces. Many rural schools lack libraries, limiting reading skills and academic performance. This project creates accessible learning hubs where children- especially girls-can read, study, and improve their education outcomes.
In rural Uganda, all schools and communities have no access to libraries or reading materials. Children rely only on classroom notes, which limits literacy development and comprehension skills. This leads to poor academic performance and low confidence in learning. Without reading spaces or books, students fall behind early. Girls are especially affected due to fewer after-school learning opportunities and limited academic support at home.
This project will build 10 fully equipped community libraries in rural areas. Each library will include books, reading spaces, desks, and educational materials for children and youth. Trained local volunteers will manage the libraries and support reading activities. The libraries will serve both school and out-of-school children, creating safe, inclusive spaces that encourage reading, learning, and academic improvement.
We will establish 10 libraries serving over 5,000 children and youth. Expected outcomes include improved literacy, stronger reading habits, better school performance, and increased retention rates. Girls will benefit from safe after-school study environments. Long-term, increased literacy will improve education levels, employment opportunities, and community development across rural Uganda.
