Progress of the Budongo Women Bee Enterprises Project Family Honey – Everyone Enjoys: Adults, Youths, Children, Elders, and even the Sick.
When Safeplan Uganda first conceived the idea of beekeeping in 2013, it was primarily a project to address environmental concerns along the forest belts of Budongo National Forest Reserve.
In September 2019, Safeplan launched a campaign on GlobalGiving, which opened the door for generous support from kind-hearted people across the world. Thanks to this, the Budongo Women Bee Enterprises can now generate up to USD 1,500 monthly—a truly remarkable achievement. We are deeply grateful for your support that made this possible.
Yet, while sales are growing, our purchasing power remains limited. Currently, we can only afford to buy about 2,000 kilograms of honey during the peak season (January–March), which sustains us for 5–6 months. To scale further and support more beekeepers in finding markets for their honey, we need to purchase at least 10,000 kilograms each peak season. This would sustain operations for a full year, generate higher revenues, and transform the lives of women and youths engaged in beekeeping.
Buying 10,000 kilograms of honey means injecting approximately USD 25,000 into the community every harvest season—a direct boost to household incomes and a powerful driver of local development.
