Support 1000 young mothers with beehives in Uganda

Deear Esteemed Donors,

Happy new year 2022!

We are pleased to share our progress with you all.

Since September 2019, Budongo Women Bee enterprise campaign has been active on the GlobalGiving platform and you have generously donated $5072. With 63 donors in2021 alone we received a total donation of $3,423,52 together contributing to more than 200 beehives and impacting directly lives of more than 100 women.

During the COVID-19 years 2020/21 we managed to reach additional women groups (30members) with beehives, the Tweyombeke Agro-Conservation Association (TACA) who have received 110 beehives to date.

Your donation also helped us meet most of the operating cost in the organization as this was the only source, we relied on to support our activities. For this we say; Thank You So Much!

Aside of beekeeping project we have been reaching out to teenage girls affected by the prolonged out of school days leading to several of school growing girls getting unintended pregnancies. Some of the girls have left their home due to social and economic pressure above all exacerbated cases of violence in homes and communities are some of the drivers of unintended pregnancies.

It’s estimated that more than 1 million girls got pregnant during the prolonged out of school days, Masindi alone has more than 1,000 girls as young mothers or expecting to deliver before end of 2022.

One of our approaches is offering psychosocial support and increasing access to skills training and input-based support so these young girls have another chance to generate income to support their babies.

Plan ahead

We have a task to mobilize more young women up to 1,000 to support them with life saving skills which include, skills training in tailoring, psychosocial support, distribution of beehives and promoting life saving cooking and lighting technology.

Ongoing activities.

We continue with our initiatives to multiply beehives to benefit more women by allowing women to pay $23 up to 2 years per beehive as a refund to replicate beehive boxes to other members. We continue to:

• Provide training and extension support to the female beekeepers
• Continue developing and aiming to scale the production of honey herbal syrup
• To engage women especially young mothers with training and mental help support
• To continue fundraising funds to support more mothers in the rural communities of Masindi.

Challenges:

We are still short of resources such as;

• Human resource which we cannot sustain due to lack of funds
• Lack of capacity to fully engage on fundraising activities to support our good initiatives
• Funds to support our staff and activities, that is why we appreciate the efforts of volunteers who endeavor to make our work possible.

Call to action:

There are many more women in the community in high level poverty, young mothers as low as 16 years, YOUR donation is much more needed than before, therefore your help is highly appreciated.
