Girls Inc.: Your Investment at Work

By Stephanie J. Hull, Ph.D. | President & CEO

Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg is the most recent of the young women at whose courage the world marvels. She and her sisters Malala Yousafzai, Emma Gonzalez, and Yara Shahidi—to name but a few—have sought allies, overcome personal obstacles, faced impossible challenges, and committed themselves to taking action in highly visible arenas. Each has a different goal, but they are working toward a unified outcome: a more rational, thoughtful, inclusive, equitable world.

These young women represent a future in which we are not satisfied simply to compensate successfully in any given situation, but we instead work intelligently toward improving the conditions that create the need to compensate. As I watch their progress, I am incredibly proud to be leading the work at Girls Inc., where every day we work with girls who have the same extraordinary potential.

Because you have invested in that potential, Girls Inc. girls have safe, positive, pro-girl environments in which to explore their inherent strengths and talents. Thanks to your generous support, they have trained, caring mentors who guide and challenge them as they set and achieve goals—from physical and emotional health to high academic performance and self-determination. And your investment is behind them as they broaden their outlook and reach, using the sisterhood and the power they have found in the Girls Inc. Experience to advocate and legislate on behalf of girls and women everywhere. Girls Inc. girls are not only navigating successfully in a sometimes-unaccommodating world, but they are also changing the world for the better.

On behalf of all of us at Girls Inc., I thank you for your confidence in these strong, smart, bold girls, and for your investment in the powerful future that they are creating.
