Dear Friends,

Thank yo so much for your continued support of our Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) project.  This project is our strategy for bridging the digital divide that exists between the rural and urban schools. Your donations have made it possible for the Tekeshe Foundation to join forces with Mupinda of CzWS to conduct four ICT workshops at Rimbi High School. The impact that this project is having has exceeded our expectation.  Here is a letter that was sent to Mr Mupinda by one of the students who attended the workshops:

Dear Mr. Mupinda

RE : WORD PROCESSING SKILL BASE

I am writting you this letter to show you how much things about computers I have lent.  I am learning an application package called MS-Word.  This package has so many interesting features.

I am now able to embolden text.

I am also able to underline text as well as to use italics.

I am also fascinated by the ability of the text to appear in different colours.  For example the text in this paragraph has been typed using the Pink colour.

The ability to change font types is fascinating.  There are so many fascinating font styles such as Arial and Courier New.  There is just so much to learn, but the following topics are my favourite:

  • Using the AutoCorrect tool
  • The in-built Thesaurus
  • The powerful feature of Mail Merge

Update On The Laptops

As I mentioned in the previous report, though this project is a big success one of the challenges is that the teachers have limited access to computers. We committed to purchasing refurbished laptops at a discounted price of $220 per laptop from CsZWS. The teachers will pay $50.00 while the Tekeshe foundation covers the rest of the cost.

We are very grateful for your support. So far, your donations have made it possible for the Tekeshe Foundation to purchase three laptops.I will be posting another report in three weeks. You will be able to see the teachers receiving the laptops.

We still have a long way to go. Our goal this year is to provide laptops to 50 teachers. I thank you in advance for helping us meet our goal.

Best wishes,

Thelma
