We are excited to bring you another update on how your support is helping us transform the Thousand Foot Falls Natural Monument (TFFNM). This time, we tackled a major logistical and safety headache: our parking situation.
Previously, visitors had to drive directly onto the main grounds and park right in front of the Visitor Center. While convenient in the dry season, the rainy season turned this area into a major hazard.
When the rainy season starts, the grounds became incredibly muddy. Vehicles would skid, dig up the lawn, and create deep ruts. More importantly, having cars sliding around so close to the main structures posed a safety risk to both our buildings and the visitors walking nearby.
To solve this, we used a mix of project funds and community effort to redesign how traffic flows at the site. Here is what we did:
Cleared a New Zone: We cleared a brand-new, dedicated area located just outside the main building perimeter. This keeps vehicular traffic safely away from the footpaths and structures.
Reinforced with Limestone: To beat the mud, we layered the entire area with durable local limestone. Now, even during heavy downpours, the ground remains solid, preventing tires from skidding or digging up the earth.
Clear Direction: We installed clear signage and markers so visitors know exactly where to go, creating a smooth, organized arrival experience.
Why this matters: This upgrade is a huge win for TFFNM. It preserves the natural beauty of our grounds, protects the infrastructure, and—most importantly—ensures that everyone from school children to international tourists can park safely, rain or shine.
Every improvement we make is a stepping stone toward a more sustainable, welcoming, and safe heritage center. We couldn't do this vital work without your generous support through GlobalGiving.
Next time you visit us, your arrival will be smoother than ever!
