In Kenya, children in vulnerable households face the risk of dropping out of school and lacking basic needs. This project provides holistic care for 750 children through counseling, career planning, and livelihood support for their parents. By empowering both parents and children, we break the cycle of poverty and ensure a brighter, sustainable future for every family.
In Homa Bay County, Kenya, the cycle of poverty is devastating: 60% of the population lives in absolute poverty on less than $2.15 a day. This economic hardship directly hits children, with only 42% making it to secondary school. Many are forced to drop out to work or care for families affected by poverty. Without intervention, these children risk losing access to education and opportunities for a better future, remaining trapped in the same cycle of poverty as their parents.
We focus on "Empowerment, Not Charity" through two core pillars: Psychosocial Support: Counselors walk alongside children to build self-efficacy and develop proactive career plans. This mentorship ensures them not only stay in school, but also successfully transition to secondary education to unlock their full potential. Livelihood Support: We provide business training to parents, enabling them to earn a stable income and independently sustain their children's education and future.
By regaining self-confidence and creating their own career plans, 750 children will begin to walk their own paths toward their dreams. This inner growth, strengthened by education, allows them to break the cycle of poverty from within. As families become self-reliant, this project fosters long-term well-being for the entire community. These empowered children will grow into adults who lead authentic lives, creating a resilient society where everyone has the chance to thrive.
