Dear supporter,
We begin this report by thanking you immensely for your contribution, which makes it possible to continue our environmental education and sustainability project, valuing quality education in a region of great environmental importance for our country and the world. Chapada Diamantina, where our school is located, is the source of important rivers in our region, which make up the Paraguaçu Hydrographic Basin, which supplies more than 80 municipalities.
In the months of November and December, there was a period of severe drought due to the absence of rain, which greatly compromised the quality of life of the local population, classes were suspended for a period due to the lack of water, and also impacted the municipalities that are supplied by these waters. Furthermore, drought constitutes a risk factor for fires, which have devastated our region, compromising native plants and animals.
For our school community, it was a period of great learning and reinforcing the importance of preservation and social participation. We visited some conservation units and protected areas with students aged 4 to 14, so they could get to know these locations, still unknown to many students, despite their importance and proximity. We visited the Association of Visiting Guides of Vale do Capão and the Volunteer Brigade, where they could learn about the climate, vegetation, water and fire care, in partnership with these organizations that works directly with these issues. We camped with elementary school students, a very common practice in the region, so they could learn to identify the local fauna, and how to interact with nature with minimal impact. We also maintained regular care of the school's yard and vegetable garden and the reduction and appropriate disposal of waste. At the end of the year, a group of students performed a play highlighting the importance of caring for the environment.
We ended the school year in December, with 88 students and 18 educators, with a prospect of growth for the year 2024: we are organizing the beginning of the 8th and 9th of elementary school at our school! This is a great achievement for the community and for our school, and we are grateful to you for contributing to ensuring that this project has the sustainability necessary for its maintenance, in a rural region that is difficult to access, with few generation opportunities of income.
In February, we will start another school year, with a lot of commitment and dedication to building active citizens, with environmental and ecological awareness!
Thanks a lot for your collaboration!
