Brighter Futures Education for Ethiopia's Children

By Riste Zenebe | Finance Manager

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Warm greetings from Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project, “Brighter Futures Education for Ethiopia's Children (#71875)”. This initiative is committed to improving access to quality education, enhancing learning environments, and empowering vulnerable children in Ethiopia to build a brighter and more sustainable future.

At a time when many children face barriers to education due to poverty, displacement, and limited resources, this project continues to provide vital support—ensuring that children not only stay in school but also thrive academically and socially.

Project Overview

Over the past quarter, our focus has been on improving educational access, providing essential learning materials, and supporting students through holistic interventions.

Our mission is clear:
to create brighter futures by ensuring equitable access to quality education, nurturing potential, and empowering children to succeed.

Progress So Far

The project has been implemented in Addis Ababa and surrounding communities, reaching:

  • Children from low-income households
  • Orphans and vulnerable children
  • Students at risk of dropping out
  • Schools with limited educational resources

Through integrated support, we are helping children remain in school and perform better academically.

  • Engaged parents and caregivers in supporting children’s education

Early Impact & Stories of Change

From Risk to Resilience – Addis Ababa
Abel, a 12-year-old student at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship, received school supplies and academic support. Today, he is back in school and performing well. He shared:
"Now I can focus on my studies without worrying about school materials."

Empowered to Learn – Young Girls in School
Girls who previously faced barriers to education are now attending school regularly and actively participating in class.

Hope Through Education – Stronger Communities
Families are increasingly valuing education, and communities are supporting children to stay in school.

Challenges Encountered

During implementation, we faced several challenges:

  • Increasing number of children needing educational support
  • Limited resources to meet growing demand
  • Economic hardship affecting families’ ability to support education
  • School infrastructure limitations in some areas

Despite these challenges, strong partnerships and community engagement have enabled steady progress.

What’s Next?

In the coming months, FUGAO plans to:

  • Expand support to 200 additional students
  • Increase distribution of educational materials
  • Strengthen tutoring and mentorship programs
  • Enhance school partnerships and teacher engagement
  • Expand child protection and psychosocial support services
  • Promote digital and innovative learning approaches where possible

Sustainability & Long-Term Vision

This project promotes long-term impact by:

  • Supporting continuous school attendance
  • Building students’ confidence and academic performance
  • Strengthening school and community involvement
  • Encouraging long-term educational achievement
  • Creating pathways for future opportunities

By 2030, FUGAO aims to support thousands of children across Ethiopia to access quality education and achieve their full potential.
