Project Report on “Brighter Futures Education for Ethiopia’s Children” (#71875)

Submitted to the GlobalGiving Community
December 10, 2025

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Three months ago, Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO) continued its commitment to giving Ethiopia’s most vulnerable children access to quality education through our project “Brighter Futures Education for Ethiopia’s Children.”
Our mission is simple yet life-changing: to ensure that every child—regardless of poverty, displacement, or crisis—has the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream.

This project is transforming classrooms, empowering teachers, and restoring hope for thousands of children whose education has been disrupted by conflict, drought, and displacement.

Progress So Far

Since September 2025, we have expanded educational access across Afar, Amhara, Oromia, and Southern Ethiopia, focusing on children from low-income families, displaced households, or communities affected by crisis.
Through collaboration with local schools, parent committees, and youth volunteers, FUGAO has delivered essential learning materials, improved school environments, and supported vulnerable learners.

Major Achievements from September – December 2025

1. Learning Materials & Educational Access

  • Provided school supplies to 4,300 children, including notebooks, pens, math sets, and school bags.
  • Distributed uniforms and shoes to 1,200 vulnerable students, enabling them to return to school with dignity.
  • Covered school fees for 180 orphaned and displaced children, ensuring uninterrupted education.

2. School Infrastructure & Learning Spaces

  • Renovated 12 classrooms in Amhara and Oromia, improving lighting, seating, and ventilation.
  • Repaired 6 damaged latrines and installed 4 handwashing stations, creating a healthier environment for 1,800 students.
  • Equipped 8 learning centers with books, solar lamps, and educational posters.

3. Teacher Support & Community Engagement

  • Trained 65 teachers in trauma-informed and inclusive teaching methods.
  •  Conducted Parent Engagement Forums in 10 districts, strengthening family involvement in children’s learning.
  • Equipped 40 teachers with teaching kits (markers, visual aids, storybooks, and classroom tools).

4. Supporting Girls’ Education

  • Provided 600 reusable sanitary pads and hygiene kits to keep girls in school.
  • Launched Girls’ Leadership Clubs in 7 schools, empowering 350 girls with confidence, mentorship, and life skills.

Early Impact & Stories of Hope

A Brighter Path for Displaced Children – Afar

After being displaced by conflict, 11-year-old Hawa had been out of school for nearly two years. Through the project’s school supply and fee support, she returned to class in September.
She told us:
“I want to become a nurse one day so I can help my people.”

Classrooms Reborn – Amhara

In a school where classrooms were once dark and unsafe, FUGAO renovated learning spaces and provided desks. Teachers report improved attendance and enthusiasm among students.

Girls Gaining Confidence – Oromia

Girls participating in the leadership clubs are showing improved academic performance, reduced absenteeism, and a new sense of purpose.

Challenges We Encountered

Despite progress, several challenges affected implementation:

  • Rising construction and transport costs due to inflation.
  • Shortages of school supplies in remote areas caused procurement delays.
  • Insecurity in certain districts disrupted movement of materials.
  • Water scarcity and poor WASH facilities affected school attendance, particularly for girls.

Despite these obstacles, our teams adapted through local procurement, flexible scheduling, and community involvement.

What’s Next? (Jan – March 2026)

NODRO plans to continue strengthening education access by:

  • Supporting 3,000 more children with school kits and books
  • Renovating 10 additional classrooms in crisis-affected districts
  • Launching Mobile Learning Support Units for displaced children
  • Providing digital learning tablets to 500 students in remote schools
  • Expanding Girls’ Leadership Clubs to 10 more schools
  • Training 80 teachers in psychosocial care and interactive learning

Sustainability & Long-Term Vision

Education is the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous society. Our long-term vision includes:

  • Strengthening community-led school committees
  • Building child-friendly and safe learning environments
  • Empowering teachers with training and teaching materials
  • Ensuring girls stay in school through mentorship and menstrual health support
  • Establishing solar-powered digital learning hubs

By 2030, FUGAO aims to support 50,000 children with inclusive, quality educational services.

Why This Project Matters

In times of conflict, poverty, or displacement, education is often the first thing lost—and the last to be restored. For thousands of Ethiopian children, this project provides:

  • a safe space to learn
  • the tools to succeed
  • the confidence to dream
  • a pathway to a brighter future

Every donation makes a direct impact:

  • $20 provides a school kit for one child
  • $50 equips a teacher with classroom tools
  • $150 supports a girl with uniforms, sanitary pads, and mentoring
  • $500 renovates a classroom for 60 children
  • $5,000 supports a full-school education improvement package

Monitoring & Evaluation

Our monitoring approach ensures transparency and measurable impact:

  • Field monitoring missions by FUGAO regional staff
  • Attendance tracking for supported children
  • Teacher feedback surveys
  • End-of-term performance assessments
  • Engagement reviews with parent committees

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • 4,300+ children supported with supplies
  • 1,200 students receiving uniforms and shoes
  • 65 teachers trained
  • 12 classrooms renovated
  • 600 girls supported with menstrual health kits
  • 7 active Girls’ Leadership Clubs

Together, We Are Building Brighter Futures

We express our heartfelt gratitude to our donors, partners, and the entire GlobalGiving community.
Your support is placing pencils back into the hands of children, books into their bags, and dreams into their hearts.

Together, we are lighting the path to a brighter future—one child at a time.

With gratitude,
“Education is hope. Education is freedom. Education is the future.”
