Late happy new year dear supporters. I am sure you are eager to know the progress of our project. Since we started this journey together in November 2013, we have recorded a remarkable achievement. Although we have not reached our financial target yet, the project activities have been going on smoothly.
At the moment, we are supporting 30 orphans girls who are in their 5th - 8th year of primary education. The girls have adequate books, stationery and a solar lamp which is really helping them and their siblings in their studies at home and reduce their families expenditure on kerosene.
In addition to the 30 orphans girls, we are also providing remedial education for 68 girls who are in the final year of primary education. The teachers have been supplied with additional resources and guidance to help them deliver engaging and effective lessons. They are very appreciative of your kind donations which have made this possible. Thank you on their behalf.
The positive impact of the project has been noticed already. Although we did not provide remedial support to girls in the final year of the primary education, project activities such as electricity installation, renovation of classrooms and books for teachers have enabled the school to make a remarkable improvement in last year's primary education examination, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). The school's mean score increased from 187 in 2013 to 252 in 2014, well above the county's average of 182. In order to reward their hard work, encourage them to continue with secondary education and also motivate this year's candidates, we organised an award ceremony on the 25th of January 2015. Elwak Girls Primary School community, education officials and our project staffs had a fantastic day to celebrate the wonderful achievement made by the pupils. The achievement was down to the hard work of the girls, teachers and parents, especially mothers who were very active and keen to see their daughters succeed.
The event was held at Elwak Girls Secondary School for lack of appropriate venue at the primary school. Despite numerous challenges the school faces, inadequate teachers, teaching and learning resources, lack of water, high poverty level amongst the parents and illiteracy, the school management, parents , school management committee and GENCAD are determined to see the students' attainment and achievement increases in the years to come.
Because of the positive improvement in the school's academic performance and increase community interests and awareness of our work, a local hotelier has already promised extend financial support to the project. We shall late you know the exact amount in our next report.
All these wonderful achievement we have witnessed so far and more to come wouldn't have been possible were it not for your generous donations and the believe that girls education is crucial for societal development. Thank you once again and we shall continue to update you on the process. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to know specific information regarding the project which may not have been covered in this brief report. Thank you once more and please bring our project in your conversations with friends, families and colleagues at your workplaces. Thanks and I hope you have had and continue to have wonderful 2015. Regards.
