Bridge Educational Gaps for 100 Orphans- updates

By Abdirashid Ali | Mr.

The incredible support we received from our donors during the 2013 Globalgiving Gateway challenge has enabled us to be in a better position to assist orphan girls in Mandera County.

As a start, because of your donations, we completed the challenge in second position, and therefore earned a bonus of £1000 for the project. In total we raised £8739 for the project from 193 donors, majority of whom are new donors to our charity. On behalf of our beneficiaries, trustees and volunteers please allow me to say THANK YOU once again.

As you are aware our target for the project was £31,028 which means we still need to raise a further £22,289 to cover the full cost of the project over two years.

The project implementation is scheduled to start in April 2014, and a number of fundraising activities are in the offing to raise at least a further £7000 to cover the cost of the first year.

The dismal examination performance of the schools in the Mandera County has generated new interests from education stakeholders; Mandera and Garissa Counties were the worst performing counties in the country. And since orphans and children from the poorest families are worst affected, we are engaged with the County Government and leaders from the region to align our planned intervention with the county government so as to have a maximum impact. In the meantime, we are finalising the selection of beneficiaries and intervention activities to be ready for April 2014 start.

We shall keep you posted on the progress of our fundraising activities, and once the project starts, the difference your kind donation is making on the ground for those poor children.

Thank you very much once again and I hope you have a wonderful 2014.
