Global Links' Breathe Hope program was recently recognized as one of the initiatives that earned Global Links a Breathe Award by the Breathe Project, a program of The Heinz Endowments of Pittsburgh, PA. They acknowledged how our innovative work helps improve air quality locally and how our efforts raise awareness about air quality issues throughout our hemisphere.
Through generous donor support, Global Links was able to send Breathe Hope shipments to clinics in Bolivia's Chaco region in August, 2013. EL Bagual health post and Caiza health post each received four nebulizing stations. Because of the shipments, at-risk children and elderly populations in these areas will have access to dependable breathing treatments when necessary.
All across Central and South America, nebulizers are in short supply, but asthma is on the rise. Deteriorating environmental conditions underlie increasing rates of respiratory disease, especially among children. The dust from unpaved roads, smoke from cooking fires, and burning garbage all exacerbate the condition.
Thank you for your support of Breathe Hope-because no one should die for lack of what others throw away.
