Workshop for Health outreach activists
STEPS NGO is implementing HIV/AIDs screening and awareness program for key population in Srikalahasti and surrounding Mandals. Sex workers among them are educated about Breast and Cervical cancer.
During last month we had organized Cancer awareness program for sex workers about breast and cervical cancer. These women are at a higher risk of developing these cancers due to their HIV status. They showed interest and the information and knowledge they gained were shared when they went back to their communities. They shared the knowledge as well as to show fellow sex workers how to do breast self examination. These workers expressed their appreciation for these services extended to them in the place where they live because they do not have a specialized doctor.
We have Organized work shop for 20 Health Outreach Activists (female who act as community mobilizers) focused on cervical cancer , Sexually Transmitted Diseases and the importance of periodical checkups. The trained women shared the information with other women in their respective slums. The women expressed that it was the first time for them to engage in such action, to receive information for the above issues.
We are planning to expand more screening options for high risk women in the near future. Thank you so much for making this vital service possible with all your generous donations.
