Project Report: Breaking Walls Festival – Where Art Breaks Silence

In this reporting period, the Breaking Walls Festival – Where Art Breaks Silence unfolded across Cairo with seven powerful performances by Egyptian and international artists, each shared twice across four venues. Alongside these performances, two dance workshops created space for deeper exchange between artists and participants. This year, the festival reached further into the heart of the city through a collaboration with El-Khalifa Community Center, bringing art into Islamic Cairo—an area where access to cultural experiences is often limited.

One of the most moving moments emerged at Megawra. Over three consecutive nights, children from the neighborhood gathered and kept coming back—never missing a single performance. For many, this was their first encounter with live contemporary performance. They watched closely, reacted freely, and slowly made the space their own. What began as a performance became something more: a shared experience, a sense of belonging, and a quiet breaking of barriers between artists and audience.

In total, more than 600 people registered for the performances, with over 550 attending, while 100 applied for the workshops and 40 took part. Yet beyond these numbers are moments that cannot be measured—newfound confidence, curiosity sparked, and voices beginning to take shape. The festival continues to open spaces where stories can be told, where differences can meet, and where art offers not just expression, but connection.
