Project Report | Nov 14, 2014
Once upon a time

By Fadekemi Akinfederin | Executive Director

Once upon a time Education As a Vaccine (EVA) started a project that would sensitize people living in rural areas of Nigeria on child protection and the rights of a child. This project has bloomed and flourished beyond EVA’s expectation. Thanks to the help and support of the amazing donors on GlobalGiving EVA was able to purchase costumes of animal characters featured in popular African folktale. Mr. Tortoise, Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Monkey, Mr. Lion.

Getting young people involved as script writers and actors is the next phase, to achieve this child protection clinics have been set up in Benue state. The clinics engaged in school and out of school youths. The clinics provide young people with the necessary information regarding child protection, rights of a child, who a child is, what a child needs and basic information about the child. The clinics help young people develop an plan of action for the project. This project is not only entertaining but informative and highly engaging. Young people are eager to be part of this project to join the teams and begin work on the skits and character development. It building the capacity of young people by getting them more involved in the area of protecting and looking out for children in the rural communities. These young people in turn act as look outs for cases of abuse relating to children in their communities

The clinics are making these young people relevant in their rural communities turning them into advocates for child rights. “I never knew things like this actually mattered, children have been ignored and mistreated for so long, these clinics have been such an eye opener. I am ready to make a difference and stand against child abuse. I am so grateful to be part of such a project’

Once the clinics are wrapped up the script writing and character development stage will take off immediately. The stories will dramatized in the local language, pidgin and English

EVA is so grateful, because of your kind and generous denotations we have been able to reach in school youth and out of school youths, bringing young people together to work for the common good. Because of you, we are assured that the rights of the Nigerian child will be protected.
