STORY!! STORY!!!

By Fadekemi Akinfaderin | Executive Director

Story Story, STORY! These are the words said when children gather around an adult to hear African folktales under the moonlight.  Although this practice is slowly fading in urban areas, it is still a major social event for children and young people in rural communities.  EVA will be using this medium to educate communities and children about the issues of sexual abuse.  We choose this strategy because of the sensitive nature of the topic of sexual abuse and want to use a child friendly approach to bring up the subjects in rural communities of Benue State as part of our child protection initiative.

We just recently purchased the costumes characters to be feature in our African folktale.  It is our pleasure to introduce you to Mr. Rabbit; Mr. Tortoise, Mr. Lion and Mr. Monkey

EVA choose these characters because of their relevance to African folktale. The tortoise symbolizes a cunning creature who constantly outsmarts the other animals. The tortoise inspires mischief in the hearts of children. The lion a strong mighty animal, ruler of the forest. The rabbit patience, endurance, tenacity will power. Stories of these animals have thrilled young African for centuries.

EVA has teamed up with the theater department of the Benue State University, Makurdi.   State in Nigeria to develop scripts in the local language and English to bring these issues to light and bring these character to life in a compelling and educational way. An educational training kit has been developed to serve as a guide for the department.

Student volunteers of the department would be divided into teams consisting of 5 people. Volunteers from the university will be trained to understand child protection issues to better equip them in the area of child protect and to help them develop better stories. The kit will also serve as a guard during the writing process.

EVA thanks you for the support you continue to provide, affording EVA the immense pleasure of building the Nigerian society through this work. EVA continues to break new barriers in the areas of educating and sensitizing people on the rights of a child because of your generous support

Thank you, your immense support made this amazingly beautiful project possible.
