In many villages across Madhya Pradesh, children enjoy sports but the lack of proper grounds or courts limits their chances to pursue them.
This was the reality for 16 year old Priya who loved badminton, but had nowhere to practise or develop her skills.
Things began to change when the CRY’s Sports for Change initiative introduced a sports ground and regular coaching sessions in the village.
Priya joined the sessions and soon stood out on the badminton court. With guidance from her Community Sports Organizer, she qualified for the district level tournament and secured first place.
That win took her to the North and Central Zone Championship, making her the first girl from her community to compete at that level.
Back home, her achievement has started to shift mindsets. Families who once hesitated are now encouraging their daughters to join the sports sessions.
What started with one girl picking up a racket is opening the door for many others.
When we recognise the importance of giving girls the space to play, grow, and pursue their potential, they begin to see possibilities that once felt out of reach.
