Fueling Bright Minds Every Morning

By Hamza Khan | Program Officer

As the academic year progressed into the winter season, the Breakfast Program at SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School and Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School, both adopted by Zindagi Trust, continued to offer students a reliable and nutritious start to their mornings. Each campus ensured that students received freshly prepared meals every day, helping them begin school feeling focused, energized, and ready to learn.

As winter arrived, the menu was thoughtfully updated to include warm and comforting options such as porridge, soup, and proteinrich dishes, supporting students’ health, immunity, and overall, wellbeing.

Weekly Nutrition Schedule

Presented below is the menu offered at both schools from November 2025 to January 2026.

  • Monday: Brown Bread French Toast & Milk
  • Tuesday: Wheat porridge
  • Wednesday: White Chickpeas & Yoghurt
  • Thursday: Chicken Corn Soup
  • Friday: Boiled Eggs with Milk (at SMB), and Date Shake (at KPS)

Until October 2025, when the weather was warmer, the following breakfast items were served:

  • Monday: Seasonal Fruit & Milk
  • Tuesday: Daal Chawal
  • Wednesday: Sandwiches with Ketchup (Brown Bread)
  • Thursday: Qeema Aloo and Chapati
  • Friday: Spinach Omelet with Brown Bread

All the meals are freshly prepared each day in clean, carefully managed kitchen environments, using only highquality ingredients. The program remains committed to offering students wellbalanced nutrition.

Strengthening Academic and Cognitive Abilities

The Breakfast Program continues to play a meaningful role in student development across both schools. Teachers have observed clear improvements in students’ concentration, memory, and classroom participation. Those who eat breakfast consistently are more engaged throughout the day and attend school more regularly.

Attendance Trends and Behavior Insights

The program has significantly reduced student absences and minimized classroom disruptions caused by hunger. Students are now more attentive, socially engaged, and better prepared for their lessons.

Nutrition Education

School staff continue to lead interactive sessions on healthy eating, helping students understand the value of balanced meals and encouraging them to make better food choices at home.

Parent Reflections: Real Stories of Change

We maintain ongoing communication with parents and gather written feedback to help us continually enhance the program. The program's success resonates with the heartfelt testimonials from parents of SMB Fatima Jinnah School students. Here are some of their comments, let’s look at what they have to say.

“I am very satisfied. Everything is very good and my daughter likes it very much.”

“My daughter likes the food here very much. She especially enjoys porridge and soup and even asks me to prepare similar meals at home. I am very happy with this system because she usually gives me a hard time about eating. Thank you to everyone.”

“My daughter eats everything served at school with great interest, including porridge, lentils and rice, and qeema. At home she is picky, but at school she eats happily. I am very pleased with the facilities provided and hope she continues to stay healthy.”

Parents consistently share their appreciation for the program, often highlighting noticeable improvements in their children’s eating habits and their growing interest in trying nutritious foods.

Looking Ahead

The Breakfast Program remains a core initiative supporting student health, academic success, and emotional well-being. Moving forward, we aim to:

  • Strengthen classroombased nutrition education
  • Reduce food waste through improved planning and management
  • Continue building strong, collaborative partnerships with families
