Throughout August - September 2021, our students (Eco Warriors) learned about 'Dwellings'. Using the four pillars: introspective, active, emotive and cognitive activities, they explored virtually the design of houses in Bali, traditional houses throughout Indonesia, dwellings of the Inuit, Japanese, Korean, and Thai tribesusing tablets.
A total of 38 children aged 7-11 years and 12 adolescents aged 12-14 years participated in ‘Dwellings’ lessons every day. With a total of 50 students participating, all activities were carried out by implementing health protocols, including limiting interactions between children – maintaining distance and not touching each other.
They designed the village where they live today and turned their ideas into dioramas or miniature models. They also created dioramas for traditional houses, public community centres, and a new building for our Learning Centre. They painted murals on the walls of the Learning Centre and created name signs for plants using four languages - Balinese, Indonesian, English and Latin. During this theme, they applied mathematics, geography, social science, language, culture, and history.
Apart from creating dioramas, Eco Warriors visited the Puri Agung Payangan and Puri Kauhan, palaces of the nobles. They learned about designated different areas of a place for sacred buildings and they also saw a Lontar, an ancient manuscript.
They visited Pura Murwa Bhumi, one of the oldest temples in Bali. They discussed with one of the leaders of the religious ceremony the history of Pura Murwa Bhumi.
Finally, in September 2021, the Eco Warriors organized an exhibition, ‘Batakita: Buildings on our Land’ as their final project. They prepared their dioramas and food for sale to the guests, which included teachers, parents, and other interested parties, who attended the festival.
Thank you for the generosity of all GlobalGiving donors who assisted to enliven our activities for the village children in Payangan, Gianyar, Bali. Such a collaboration as this fosters hope in the midst of current difficulties. Once again, we thank you for assisting to bring a bright future for the children, their families, and their community.
