Helping Hands Centre of Brandon Inc serves over 3000 meals per month to the public in need and during the pandemic has provided a vital service to the people of Brandon and southwestern Manitoba.
The centre maintains a building at 111 7th Street that has a kitchen, food storage facility and dining room. Our building had been a wonderful location to provide meals to our patrons during Covid-19 but it is in need of a repair to the main fresh water line coming in from the City of Brandon water service. We have patched the water line but it needs to be replaced soon. Should the patch fail the building and Helping Hands food service will need to stop immediately due to no fresh water being available in the building for cooking, cleaning, washrooms and fire suppression. We need the funds available to replace the water line so we can continue to operate the soup kitchen and continue to supply hot meals to the people of Brandon and southwestern Manitoba in need ever weekday.
During the pandemic, we are serving hundreds of more meals that we normally do. The meal service is run every week day from 11:30am till 1:00pm. We are using a take away system to keep up with the demand. The demand continues to increase the longer the pandemic lasts. People who had government funding run out have now come to receive our meal service in addition to our regular patrons. We want to continue feeding the people of Brandon and southwestern Manitoba in need a hot nutritious meal daily to keep them healthy during these uncertain times.
