Report 5-Blind students grit to achieve goal!!

Workshop around Laptop usage..
Workshop around Laptop usage..

Tejani, a person with multiple disability including vision impairment, hails from Maharashtra. He is 27 years old and currently settled in Bangalore. Tejani is a beneficiary of Mitra Jyothi who has attended 45 days computer course. His father is engaged in agriculture and his mother is housewife.

Tejani is differently abled by birth and he has gone through a lot of struggle in his life journey. As he was born and brought in a village where there was no value for education, it was difficult for him to continue his education in his village. Further he did his education from inclusive schools outside his village with great difficulty. Inspite of his multiple disabilities there was a strong desire to complete his education with the help of his teachers and friends. He completed MBA successfully irrespective of challenges.

He is acknowledging that after coming to Mitra Jyothi he gained a lot of improvement in confidence and English language. He cherishes his time spent at Mitra Jyothi. Tejani says, “I made so many new friends here. I became independent, confident and opened up to society”. Here, he was formally introduced to proper accessibility in the field of computers - MS Office and internet browsing. After completing the course Tejani got successfully placed in a corporate.

Tejani’s story has not only inspired his visually- and non-visually impaired peers into believing that they, too, can succeed with determination, but also motivated the parents of children who suffer from blindness or other disabilities to fight for their right to a full education.

Rightly proud of his achievements, Tejani wants to become a HR manager in a MNC, and is passionate about the rights of disabled people. Tejani is also immensely grateful to his parents and teachers for the roles they have played.

Tejani’s success story is a great example of the force of empowerment and liberation that education can wield. It shows how children who suffer from blindness can become a transformative force in the community, especially for those are being deprived of their rights.

Main objective of the project is to provide braille laptop to students with any kind of visual disability (from low vision and complete blindness to people at risk of losing vision with time) from economically backward and marginalized communities to promote reading and literacy.

Dotbook will help Visually Impaired students like Tejani to be on par with other kids and plays a vital role in inclusive education. With GlobalGiving project we are planning to procure the Dotbook laptop and distribute to students from marginalized community. We are yet to receive required funds to procure Dotbook braille refreshable device as per plan.
