All programs offered at the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County are extremely important to our children’s futures; however the educational programs remain paramount to their academic success.
The Boys & Girls Club takes an active role in assuring its members that they have available to them the necessary support to be prepared to return to school with their homework completed. With completed homework, children are eager to participate in the classroom; they have better self-esteem and can move to the next class assignment knowing that they have conquered the previous task. Outcomes produced in the Boys & Girls Club Reading for Success Program show students increasing their comprehension, vocabulary skills, and reading proficiency by a minimum of 30 percent after participating twice weekly for 8 weeks in the program. Many students experience a much higher percentage and move on more quickly in the program. Being a proficient reader enables students to achieve academic success in all educational programs. The inability to read and comprehend will become a detriment to future education and employment. The Boys & Girls Club Reading program is computer based and is administered by trained staff and volunteers. Each session will last one hour with the student participating in the various levels they complete.
The Reading Program continues to meet and exceed expectations as the children are prepared to proceed to the next grade level in school. It is important that we take a stand as we “Open the Door” for our children’s future. Together we can make a difference for all children, especially those who need us the most.
