April and May were the months of forward-looking events for Boxgirls South Africa. It was the perfect possibility to set the course for upcoming plans and prepare a new curriculum for the Afterschool Leadership Education program.
Together with the Laureus Foundation, the team in South Africa carried out some exciting project coordination, so that more girls can benefit from the program in future years. There was also space for exchange, how sports can trigger development, self-esteem and the importance for girls to stand up for their rights.

Earlier this year, founder and CEO Prof Heather Cameron, was a speaker at the panel of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York. "Sport strengthens, builds and shows opportunities for own activities", she explains. "Sport is a mighty catalyst for social change." As sport is an important tool for sustainable development worldwide, Heather Cameron was inivited to the panel discussion as an expert guest for her experience from the field and her success with Boxgirls.

Further, the team in South Africa hosted a great teacher's event. The main objectives were getting feedback from the teachers regarding their work in classes and the importance of monitoring and evaluation. Thereby, the team worked on further improving the curriculum and making classes for girls even more valuable.

The Boxgirls Afterschool Leadership Education provides support for girls and young women in multiple ways. Be it through Math and English tutoring to improve their performance at school, activities and events in the community to raise awareness for the topic of gender equality and how to prevent gender-based violence as well as through cooperative games and pedagogical elements of sports.
Thank you for supporting the Boxgirls project!
All the best from your Boxgirls team,
Oliver Böck
