Asian Youth Leaders learn about boxing and gender

By Anna Jankowska | Project Leader

Discussion on gender in sports
Discussion on gender in sports

We constantly attempt to promote the work of Boxgirls clubs and the idea of boxing for development among all people willing to fight gender discrimination and gender based violence, to empower girls and to bring a positive change to their communities.

Thus we are very happy about the opportunity to run a Boxgirls workshop during the Youth Leadership Camp this year. Boxgirls International has been invited to participate in UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camp in Tohoku to run a workshop and teach young leaders from 17 Asian countries about sport for development, boxing and gender equality. Young leaders from different sport organizations came to Tohoku, Japan to learn about leadership in sports for development and improve their skills as coaches and changemakers in their communities. This two-week programme is offered to people working or volunteering in grassroots level sport for development projects. Participants of Boxgirls workshop discussed about gender and sport in their countries and worked on ideas how to improve gender equality in their organizations. After the discussion part we had a fantastic boxing class, where young women and men learned about connection between sport and life skills, self-confidence, self-efficacy, respact and empowerment. Participants were interested in combining boxing exercises with their sport disciplines and using boxing elements as empowerment tool. We were also talking about sport messaging and made short movies, where participants give their statements on gender equality and sports in their countries.

If you would like to see the results of their work ang get some insight about the gender problems in Asian countries, please visit our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/wwwBOXGIRLSorg.

The work of Boxgirls girls' clubs is only possible thanks to your support. We are only able to tell the story about Boxgirls success thanks to your engagement. Thus we would like to say once again: THANK YOU!

Your Boxgirls International Team
