Akhmad is not even 2 and already he is facing a mortal enemy - acute myeloid leukemia, M5. It is an aggressive subtype of leukemia that is very difficult to treat and carries a poor prognosis. Stem cell transplant is a must with this kind of leukemia that requires aggressive treatment to halt its progression. For seven months Akhmad's treatment stalled as he did not respond to chemotherapy well enough to proceed to transplantation of donor's stem cells. As an extraordinary measure, Akhmad received chemotherapy not typically prescribed to young children - and the risky move paid off. In early March he showed response to chemo and was scheduled for urgent transplantation. It went well, and Akhmad is now recovering and rebuilding his immune system. We were happy to support Akhmad and his family and hope he gets well very soon!
We appreciate your support for our project that helps children like Akhmad! On July 10, starting at 9 am EDT, you can help us raise even more funds thanks to the bonus match opportunity provided by GlobalGiving! The July Bonus Day 2024 campaign will have a Matching Fund of $100,000 (limited to $2,000 per organization).
While funds remain, the following matching structure will apply:
We hope you can support us now or on July 10th and help us bring more help to cancer patients in the former Soviet Union!
