Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) is a registered Society located in village Purkal, a semi-rural region on the outskirts of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, we enrol children (predominantly girls) with potential from deeply needy and underprivileged families.
Due to ignorance, unavailability of health facilities and priority to manage two square meals for the family, it is natural for children families to ignore healthcare. We, therefore, provide guaranteed medical care to all our students. We have also employed a qualified nurse.
Annual health check-up is also conducted through tie-ups with various doctors in the city who do it at free or concessional rates. We also emphasize preventive healthcare. Awareness about hygiene and self-care is promoted. Medical camps and workshops are conducted regularly.
In the unfortunate event of a major illness/injury to a student, the Society has stretched itself and ensured full treatment and recovery.
Our medical support covers:-
(i)On-campus dental camp
(iii)Blood test and Blood Group Identification
(vi)Children are vaccinated against Measles, Typhoid, Tetanus and Pertussis
Our School nurse makes sure that iron tablets are given to children to curb the wide occurrence of anaemia as we have a well-equipped infirmary, and maintains a health booklet containing health records such as immunization, vaccination, weight and eye-sight is maintained for all students from admission till they graduate from school.
We have formed a Health and Wellness club to teach children about health awareness and hygiene, those who are ill are taught about the preventive measures and first aid, they are even taught about stress management during exams and posters regarding health management have been put up in every classroom.
A few years ago as the cases of Tuberculosis had increased in our School and we were facing problems of not being able to provide medicines, therefore, PYDS collaborated with the Doon Hospital which helped us overcome the problem.
We have established a Medical Nursery for the students in which they are taught about Ayurvedic medicines and herbs to include in their everyday life so that they are not dependant on Allopathic medicines always. One of the cases of a student that took place recently was that the student suffered from Dengue and her platelet count had dropped down to 30,000 which is very crucial but under good guidance, she was treated through ayurvedic medicines and good diet management, the student recovered well and is healthy today.
We were progressing thoroughly with our medical care, these updates had been done in the month of January to mid-March but as the whole world is facing COVID-19 problems, we are also going through the same challenges but as the School continues to remain closed due to COVID-19 Pandemic. We strongly abide by helping students who need medical help during this time period. Our teachers are tracking medical requirements and providing support wherever needed.
We thank you for the wonderful support that you are providing to our cause. Your support to us during these tough times is deeply appreciated.
