Biogas for Better Lives in Rural Thailand

CCF has proceeded the project by setting up a consultative meeting with Umphang Subdistrict Administration Organization (SAO).

On September 4, 2018, CCF regional coordinator Mr. Sarot Sirimaung met with Mr. Akaradej Pa-ai, the Permanent Secretary of Umphang Subdistrict in Tak province to consult him about an establishment of Biogas plants in Yamokee Village. The CCF regional coordinator also explained on the project details and requested for the SAO's additional support, which was agreed as follows: 

• The SAO will support on transportation costs to deliver materials from Umphang to Yamkee Village because it is very expensive, which is around 2,000 Baht per time.
• The SAO will organize Biogas workshops for the community.
• The SAO will provide plant varieties for replacing trees custdown used for firewood, which the Permanent Secretary is very serious about it.

CCF also set up another meeting with Yamokee Villagers at their Community Hall to discuss about Biogas as the following detials:

• CCF met with the community leaders and explained to some 40 villagers about the Biogas project and its benefits.
• The community in support of CCF developed a community map identifying families that raise pigs, numbers of pigs, and the areas to build Biogas plants. There are 36 families that raise 132 pigs (between 1 to 12 pigs per household).
• The condition to participate in this project is that the families need to support building materials i.e. stone/ sand; PVC pipes 1/2"; gas head; construction labours and transportation
• It was agreeded at the meeting to prioritize famlies to support according to their readiness to add up the building matereials and transportation costs; thier high number of pigs raised; their high number of family members resulting in a high number of trees cut down used for firewood.
• At present, six households have been selected to participated in this project. 

Next steps:

CCF will engage more partners from leading organizations, such as National Innovation Agency, Energy Research and Development Institute of Nakornping, etc.
