Dear Donors,
Empowering Women Period in Kolkata, Mukti Women, We have had many challenges becoming sustainable as a social enterprise run in a red light district. First of all, the women are not used to a production schedule and the concept of being sustainable through increased production is a far cry from reality at the Mukti Women Pad Company. They are working hard and we are so proud of their attitude and ability to learn the machinery. Right now we have a volunteer at New Light who is from Paris and a business student. She has continued to create budgets and business plans that help us understand how we can help the pad company and the women who work there.
As you move forward with determination to grow into a self-sufficient organization, we are focusing on buying pads from the women to give to vulnerable women in prisons who are in deplorable conditions and victims in Kolkata. Donations are key to keep the women working and pads being given to girls who have no menstrual protection and don't go to school or women in prisons who have little creature comfort that provides some dignity to get through a day during their menses.
Life can be cruel to women and sanitary pads are a gesture of caring that transcends basic human kindness. Thank you for caring.
Shana
