Dear Supporters,
Difficult times are an understatement considering the world's chaos and unrest, however, we still focus on humanity and the needs of girls and women for balance. After speaking to Urmi of Mukti and the pad project in Kenya, it seems that the equipment needs maintenance. They were humming along and then the machinery started to cause them problems. As of today, Mukti is temporarily shut down. The woman made pads that were being stockpiled so they are OK for now but in the meantime, we need to get the company up and running. We are buying pads for the girls and the women are still getting their stipend to distribute until all is straightened out.
Girls still need sanitary pads but the machines must be fixed to continue making and selling pads. I was loathed to report this since you have been so extraordinary in keeping the women working and girls in pads. I want to always be honest with our supporters and donors. Most importantly, the goals of our programs and the sincerity and kindness of our donors must be honored. Sustainability is a difficult hurdle for programs that are on the edge with limited funding and support.
Again, thanks for hanging in there. We will make sure your funds buy pads from our projects that are still functioning and the machines will be fixed. If you care to donate towards the cost of fixing the machines, that will be gratefully accepted.
With all of the issues people are facing, I want to commend you for supporting girls physically and emotionally who have worked so hard to rise in life.
Thank you so very much from Kara and me at Village Volunteers and from all of the women and girls who are so grateful for your thoughtfulness. Those of you who support them with a once-a-month stipend are our heroes.
