What! That time again?

By Shana Greene | Co-Executive Director/Village Volunteers

If it's that time of month, all women have some feeling of dread. Because hormones are involved, being on edge is common. But consider if you lived without adequate drinking water and access to washing and clean facilities to wash in. It's always an extra hassle and consideration but it can mean bullying, shame, and abuse. It can mean using whatever materials you have to create a makeshift pad because products are rarely affordable. Poor access to sanitation facilities and no privacy to wash and dry further compound the issue of washable pads.

Across the board, women are still facing the issues of rights and access to education about sexual health. They are still facing huge barriers to living with safety and dignity.  We aren't going to change life circumstances for women everywhere, but we can empower women to make pads and provide a biodegradable product that can be disposed of in a pit latrine. Women helping women is key to understanding the challenges.

We thank you for your past contribution and if you are a monthly donor, we want to give you a big hug. It's nice to know we have girls without means who are supported and disenfranchised women and girls, given a chance at a better life. Your gesture says a lot about your heart.

And, again, thank you for your generosity to girls and women who just need a break.

Have a healthy and happy holiday season and beyond.

Warmest regards,

Shana Greene
