Dear Supporter,

First and foremost, we want to thank our supporters. Without you, we could not continue. A deep heartfelt thank you from all of us from the women who are employed to the girls receiving sanitary napkins.

Mukti, our pad comp[any in the red light district in Kolkata, is doing well and continuing on their journey to be sustainable in supplying pads for vulnerable girls while employing the most marginalized women. Your important donation buys pads from the women at Mukti to provide pads to girls to continue with school uninterrupted and avoid becoming child brides or worse case, prostitutes. The options for girls who are not educated are dismal.

The exciting news is that we are finally open in Kenya and using water hyacinth for the raw material. The pads were tested by the Kenyan government labs and they passed for use so we are delighted to get to this point.

The Kenyan pad company has the capacity to produce 2,000 a day but at this point, they are only producing 860.  Increasing production is their goal in creating the pad with water hyacinth. We developed this biodegradable pad from a tenacious and rampant growing freshwater invasive species that absorbs water at a rapid rate and doubles in size every 6-18 days. The company has just started but we are thrilled to add that supports women and girls. The women continue to grow in their efficiency in both India and Kenya so they can supply girls with a biodegradable option made by women, for women.

We have created a new website and we hope to grow awareness for this effective program that is supplying pads to vulnerable people while employing the most marginalized. Take a look! http://www.empoweringwomenperiod.org/

As a donor, you are most important for the process of becoming self-sufficient and continuing to support the most marginalized women and girls. The subscriptions are particularly important since its a consistent supply and we know that girls are getting what they need to continue with school. Subscriptions start at $12 a month.

Again, thank you for your support. If you have any questions about the pad companies, please don't hesitate to contact me at shana@villagevolunteers.org or follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/empoweringwomenperiod/

Thank you!

Shana
