While creative art facilitates expression through imagination & experimentation, physical education is critical to a child’s holistic development, social life and interpersonal relations. Whether creating a painting, learning to dance or singing in a chorus, taking small steps and being persistent adds value to a child’s growth and improvement. Children possess intrinsic talent and with an opportunity to unleash and showcase their extracurricular flair, it hones as an essential life skill.
Nakshatra, Bhumi’s annual inter-shelter home talent festival is an exceptional platform for children to compete in sports and art.
The talent festival was conducted across different zones in three cities namely Kolkata, Bengaluru and Mumbai between June and October, with 1,913 under-privileged children from 76 shelter homes participating actively under the guidance of 678 volunteers.
The Arts event kicked off with children competing in face painting, clay modelling, collage making, rangoli etc. The children kept the team spirit alive by cheering one another in competitions such as group dance, group singing and had something to take away from the skits performed. The children were enthralled to be in their dance costumes and showcase their rhythm and coordination. While some children showed great imagination and thought in story writing, a few others were spontaneously creative in Adzap. Beyond participation and winning in the Art events, the children helped the volunteers to keep the venue clean and tidy which was heartwarming to witness.
The overall Arts Talent Fest was won by Calcutta Social Project in Kolkata, Sahasra Deepika Home and Child Fund Association in Bengaluru and St. Catherine’s Orphanage in Mumbai. The 4 shelter homes who bagged the winner place and 5 shelter homes who bagged runners up were honored with prizes, whereas certificates were given to all the children for their enthusiasm and spirit for being nakshatra stars.
As the saying goes “Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness”, it was gripping to see the euphoria in the children’s participation. The children were elated to move out of their comfort zone as they were provided with a chance to mingle and make new friends from different backgrounds and shelter homes. Nakshatra truly was a day filled with joy and tints of colour, helping the children dazzle in an environment of healthy company and competition.
