Nakshatra is Bhumi's annual inter-children's home art, cultural, sports and science talent fest for children to exhibit their talents and explore their potential in an atmosphere of healthy competition. The programme provides a platform for the children to ‘Dream’, exhibit their talents, get competitive exposure, ‘Discover’ their potential, 'Dazzle’ in an atmosphere of healthy competition and enrich themselves with much needed perspective about their inherent potentials; and to improve the self confidence of children, contribute to their holistic development through promotion of extra-curricular activities.
The platter of cultural events include pot painting, clay modelling, fabric art, group dance, mimicry, medley song, quiz, elocution, debate etc.; and sport events include field, track, indoor and team events.
Apart from the event, Bhumi volunteers visit orphanages to conduct art and literary events and extend the opportunity of competing to all. 'Nakshatra Reach Out', was conducted in Chennai and Mumbai.
Nakshatra in 2013 has engaged 5,795 participations from 111 Children’s Homes through your support.
Testimonials from volunteers, children and wardens
"For the sports event, students from the home I was associated with shared that they were very disappointed when they lost the football event at Nakshatra 2012 and they were very determined to set things straight this year. And true to their words, they played with so much determination and vigour. When the final was played and victory was achieved, a mad and jubilant celebration followed. Everyone came running to me and gave a flying High five. Every time I recollect that moment it brings immense happiness and satisfaction within me." - Gopalakrishnan N., Bhumian
"Whether its planning the events/work, or meeting volunteers or spending time with children or the smile that comes on the kids face when they spend their day, everything gets etched in your memory!" - Sangeetha Ganesan, Bhumian
"We always wish to participate in our school annual day's dance competition but we haven't be able to as fancy costumes are not affordable. But, Nakshatra let us participate in our school uniforms. Our talents were appreciated and we were given prizes. We thank you for all this and for treating us as your own children." - Ms. Gayathri (XI D), Seva Sangam
"Your visit to our home before the event to explain everything made us feel very comfortable. It was well organised. The hidden talents of our children were brought out. The food and water provided were hygienic. The volunteers were punctual in picking up the children from our home and dropping them back. Thank you, Bhumi" - Warden, Hope Worldwide.
Nakshatra would not have been possible without the support of hundreds of Bhumi volunteers, their families, friends and our corporate partners.
