Between the Lines Summer 2013 Report

By Deanna Seibold | Community VP

Between the Lines is off to a good start for the 2013-2014 Junior League year. This year Between the Lines will continue to work closely with Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville and Santiam Correction Institution in Salem. The reading dates have already been scheduled for the year and we look forward to reaching out to more children in the process. Our first reading in October is just around the corner. In addition to readings at correctional facilities, the committee will look into reaching out to other opportunities, including Ronald McDonald House. The committee will also plan and execute an annual book fair at Barnes and Nobel Bookstore at Bridgeport Village. The book fair date is tentatively set for December of this year and will help Between the Lines collect books donations to be used for future readings. Another goal of the committee this year is to make the mission of Between the Lines clear to members within Junior League and within the community.

The first Between the Lines committee meeting is scheduled for the second Thursday in August. The committee is comprised of a strong group of members, including three returning member and eight new members. At this meeting members will become acquainted and familiarized with the goals of Between the Lines for the 2013-2014 year. A more informative and detailed meeting is tentatively scheduled for late August. The Between the Lines Committee is excited for an eventful and productive year!

We are incredibly thankful to you for supporting Between the Lines' efforts in breaking the cycle of incarceration, strengthening family ties, and promoting early childhood literacy. We look forward to sharing our positive results with you in the coming year!
