The program My life is a diamond (MVD), is one of the three finalists for Beyond Sport Awards in the category Sport for Conflict Resolution Award. GIP shares nomination with Maré United - Fight for Peace (Brazil / Global) and PeacePlayers International (Middle East).
The Beyond Sport Awards promote, support and reward the best projects across the globe that are using sport for positive social change. GIP will be in October at the awards ceremony, next to sports and social organizations such as Arsenal Football Club, Barcelona FC, Major League Baseball, Detroit Pistons and Right to Play.
"This nomination comes at a historic moment for Colombia, in recognition of a thoughtful and dedicated work where our communities have been our main allies. From us is an encouragement to continue contributing to the transformation from sports, it is a boost to continue working hard. Peace is built in the territories with people", said Beatriz Mejia, director of GIP, which develops MVD (among other programs) in Colombia and Mexico.
The MVD process aims that children and young people from communities with high levels of social vulnerability and violence, develop and strengthen their capacities to respond assertively to social environmental threats. Baseball, is the medium employed in the process, offering a variety of thoughtful options, with symbolic issues such as roles, plays and situations that can be extrapolated to real life situations.
