Hello from SoulGives,

The purpose of the Casa Bee Guardian project is twofold.

First, we aim to give severely disabled children in Cozumel, Mexico meaningful activities where they actively participate rather than simply watch or listen. These students deserve experiences that engage their senses, spark curiosity, and allow them to contribute.

Second, we want them to learn how plants grow, how bees make plant life possible, and how bees work together to build a successful community. Through handson interaction, students begin to understand the connection between nature, cooperation, and resilience.

To make this safe and accessible, we use the local stingless Melipona beecheii. Because these bees cannot sting, children can observe them up close without fear. The beecheii have a single entrance to their hive, guarded at all times by one bee who ensures no intruders enter. Even without the ability to sting, they protect their home through teamwork and vigilance.

This is one of the core lessons we share with the students: that even though the beecheii may seem “less capable” than other bees, they succeed because they work together. Their strength comes from community, cooperation, and shared purpose.

Thank you for supporting our work and helping us bring these experiences to the children of Cozumel.
