We knew 1,000 pillows was a lot to ask for. But here at Community Warehouse we don’t back off from ambitious goals. Beds are the cornerstone of our mission, and one of our most requested items are beds for kids. Too often we have to give a family of four only two pillows.
For Community Warehouse's fall campaign, we set our sights on collecting 1,000 pillows to give our neighbors in need. Our donors came through! We had more than 1,500 pillows donated during our one month drive, by individuals as well as collection sites at local businesses and faith communities. And they keep showing up!
We also had a surprise donation of 154 handsewn pillowcases and 11 quilts from volunteers at Coffee Creek Quilters. This is a group of volunteers who teach sewing and quilting to the inmates at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. They are regular donors to our program, and our clients really love to receive handmade items. They fly off our shelves!
But we also know this is just one piece of the puzzle. Pillows need beds. Kids need sheets and blankets to snuggle under. When families wake up in the morning they need pots and pans to cook breakfast. The work continues even after our celebration. You can help. Any amount you give helps create warm and comfortable homes for our neighbors.
So far this year, Community Warehouse has served 6,205 neighbors, including 2,851 kids. Community Warehouse is the only furniture bank in this region, serving roughly 60 families per week. That's a lot of furniture.
Thousands of local families and their kids are sleeping better at night because of your support.
Warmly,
Robin
