An eventful summer

Dear Friends,

It has been an eventful summer! In the last month alone, Community Warehouse helped create homes for 605 people (including 284 children).

In June, Community Warehouse hosted Portland Mayor Charlie Hales for a furniture drive supporting veterans and their families. We will be receiving 200 brand-new twin Tempur-Pedic beds over the next 3 months from BedMart to support this initiative.

Also, we are excited to move forward with a project that has been a long time coming – painting and redesigning the front of our Portland Warehouse to increase visibility. Hundreds of people drive by our Portland Warehouse every day without even noticing our building. By increasing our visibility, we predict a 20% increase in donations and shoppers at our Estate Store. The extra funds and furniture donations will allow us to serve 500 more clients, including 200 children, in 2015 alone.

We are thrilled to announce that in July, Community Warehouse was selected as one of the top 100 nonprofits to work for by Oregon Business magazine.

Lastly, I would like to share this quote from a Community Warehouse staff member:

I walked into the empty room and saw a little boy taking a nap on the floor. He opened his eyes as we were carrying in a twin bed – HIS new bed – and he asked us if it was for him. Being able to answer ‘Yeah buddy, it’s all yours’ was such a powerful experience. The pride I felt at knowing the Community Warehouse had made such a difference in not only that boy’s life but his entire family’s was huge. I don’t think I have ever felt that way before.”

With your support, we can continue to provide the comforts of home to children and families in our community.

Warmly,

Anna Kurnizki, Development Manager
