Studies have shown that furniture – especially furniture one chooses for one's own home – makes all the difference when it comes to security, self-esteem and emotional well-being. At Community Warehouse, we belive there are more than enough beds, blankets, pots and pans, and funishings ciruclating in the Portland Metro area for everyone! With donated goods from our local community, we are able to provide furniture and household items to neighbors seeking the comfort and dignity of a furnished home while overcoming adversity.
When clients visit our Furniture Banks, they are leaving behind housing instability rootted in poverty or domestic violence, immigrating from homes in other countries, or celebrating their restored freedom after periods of imprisonment. They are excited to furnish their new homes with furniture that speaks to them, settle in, and continue working on self-sufficiency and personal growth.
"I have had the pleasure of watching numerous parents graduate treatment or gain access to housing, have their children returned, and start over in a new living space," Case Manager Chelsea says. "Being able to furnish the apartment for a child's return is indescribable. Access to furniture is something many take for granted but having a designated bed for your child to sleep in, having a couch to watch movies together, or having a dining room table to cook family meals is life changing."
In 2024 alone we furnished 3,242 homes, changing the lives of over 7,500 people! Thank you for joining in our efforts to make housing staibility a reality for all in the Portland Metro area.
